Book: Looking Up When Life is Looking Down
Author: Beth Moore
Help, I’ve fallen, and I can’t get out! Can’t get out because you are stuck, due to the knee-high mud in the pit and the longer you are in the pit, the more difficult it becomes to stand firm, long enough to get out and continue on with the journey our Lord, has planned for your life. Likewise, the longer you are in the pit, the dimmer His vision for your life gets and you begin to lose sight of our Lord, the vision He has for your life and your willingness to help others in need. Stuck, wobbly on your feet and visionless. Nonetheless, our Lord’s perfect timing, once again, could not be better because He reminds you of His promise found in Ephesians 1:18, “Open the eyes of their hearts, and let the light of Your truth flood in. Shine Your light on the hope You are calling them to embrace. Reveal to them the glorious riches You are preparing as their inheritance.” (The Voice Translation)
Without claiming a spoiler alert, you and I, do not have to remain in the pit, we simply need to do our share which is to engage our Lord, as Beth Moore mentions, engage Him, in our difficulty, entrapment, visionless and hopeless situation. She goes on to mention, “cry out, confess and consent”. You may have fallen, however, you can get out, “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.” Psalm 62:5-7 (New Living Translation)
Absolutely, hands down my favorite parts of the book, were the scripture portions and encouraging quotes because the words were challenging and enlightening. As believers we need to rely on our Lord’s Word, as a lamp unto our feet and encouragement when facing difficulties, letdowns and overwhelmed by lives’ circumstances!
I highly recommend the book because as I mentioned previously it is uplifting especially, if you find yourself in a situation of entrapment, vision lessness and hopelessness, trapped in a pit and you cannot find your way out.
