Book – Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World

Author: Max Lucado

Max Lucado hit another home run in “Anxious for Nothing: Finding Calm in a Chaotic World.” The title itself can draw one in simply because “chaos” is the perfect way to describe our pandemic ridden world. The anxiety has shown to be crippling for some. Lucado takes the reader’s hand and guides them through four distinct sections; a celebration of His goodness, asking Him for help, leaving concern at His feet, and focusing on things that are worthy of praise.

The book progresses through each section, weaving them together seamlessly; however, each section is carefully crafted and can be a standalone lesson. One part focuses on prayer. Lucado aptly states peace happens when people pray. It is important to note that he did not say that everything will turn out exactly as we ask when we pray. Peace is available amid the storm. As the waves roar, talking to God provides what is needed to get through the next few seconds, minutes, or hours. The storms in life that cause anxiety to swell can draw one closer to Yahweh Shalom, the God of Peace.

“Others see the problems of the world and wring their hands. We see the problems of the world and bend our knees.” -Lucado

This book comes highly recommended no matter the source of the anxiety that grips every breath.  Be prepared to draw closer to Him. Let us bend our knees and focus our eyes on the things above.
