Book: Mrs. Oswald Chambers: The Woman behind the World’s Bestselling Devotional

Mrs. Oswald Chambers by Michelle Ule is a biography of the wife of Oswald Chambers, author of the famous devotional My Utmost for His Highest. This book tells the story of God’s call on Biddy’s life, which was one of self-sacrifice for the purposes of God and for her husband’s ministry. She accepted Oswald’s marriage proposal knowing that marrying him would not primarily be for her happiness or pleasure but for service to God foremost. Many don’t know that My Utmost for His Highest was published ten years after Oswald Chamber’s death and is owed just as much to Biddy’s talent and devotion as to Oswald’s ministry.
Biddy and Oswald’s co-ministry had a very unpredicted ending and is a testimony of overcoming trials. I didn’t find this book an entertaining read and didn’t have a favorite part but was immensely challenged throughout.
I would recommend this book for those who want to be inspired to live sacrificially for the work, ministry and blessing of others.
