The women of our corps decided to reach out to the single women in the transitional living program on our corps campus. We collected packages of Top Ramen® and rolls of toilet paper. On the last Thursday of the month, when people are at the end of their resources, we divided into teams of two and went door to door. We gave the gift of Top Ramen® and toilet paper and asked each woman how we could pray for them. Month after month, not a single person turned us down for prayer—even the woman who declared she was an atheist.
After we finished knocking on doors, we sat down and wrote personal notes to each resident and then put them in the mail. It gave us the opportunity to invite them to church services and to reinforce our desire to make a real connection with them. It was a joy to be present in our transitional living program and to speak the name of Jesus to people.
