Wonder Women
Scripture: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future” (Prov. 31:25).
Activity
Invite the women to bring a picture of a “wonder woman” who has made an impact on their life. Have them share why that woman is significant to them.
Strong Women
Women have always played a strong part in my life. My paternal grandmother, Ruth, is a strong woman. My mother is a strong woman. I inherited my sass from both. There has never been a point in my life where there were not women influencing me in positive ways. Perhaps that is why I try to advocate for women and love to surround myself with girlfriends. Some of my dearest female friends are some of the smartest people on this planet. They breathe life into my soul.
I was born into The Salvation Army. It is the only church I attended growing up. As an adult, one of the primary reasons I stayed was their egalitarian stance. I wanted to be in a place where I had a voice and the authority to lead. And for that, we have Catherine Booth to thank. Catherine Booth is the co-founder of The Salvation Army and used her voice in a time when women’s voices were supposed to be meek and silent. She boldly proclaimed her faith and used her pulpit to bring thousands of people to the Lord.
God has been using women since the birth of humanity. Genesis 1:28 tells us that “God blessed them and said to them, “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” God gave that blessing to Adam and Eve together. Before the fall, the original plan was for men and women to do this in partnership with each other. God still uses women today.
God has used women in the past – Eve, Mary, Pricilla, Evangeline and Catherine Booth, and God wants to use you. His plan for you is lead others and invite them into a relationship with Jesus. He clothes us with strength and dignity. We can be bold in our faith and laugh without fear of the future because we know that we are centering our lives in His plan. God’s plan for us includes being secure in our knowledge of His love for us and in the peace that He provides for His children.
The only barriers to this are the ones we create for ourselves. Women are created in the image of God. Do not let the things of this world distort your thinking into believing anything less for yourself. God has called you and He will equip you. You may not be the next great inventor, but you can be a great example of the love of Christ to others. What is keeping you from living your life in abundance through Jesus? What can you do today to make the changes needed? What is God calling you to? How can the women in your group help you to get there?
Activity
Invite the women to share how the other group members have made an impact in their life. Sometimes it helps if the leader starts. For example, “Norma, your willingness to help each week is such a blessing to me. You are selfless and a great example of someone who cares for others.”
Wonder Women Inventors
Some of our household appliances and technology that we would not want to live without were invented by women. Unscramble the letters to reveal the items.
