As I Remember You
As we get older, we tend to become more aware of how the people and events of our past have affected our present and our future. Some of these memories can have a positive influence, some can be negative. Some affects are short lived, some make changes that are long-lasting. We have spent time reviewing memories from the 1950’s and have been reminded of this “cause and affect” activity.
As believers, we should be able to look back on our spiritual lives and see those moments or people who have influenced us in our journey. In Philippians 1:1-11, Paul tells the people of the church at Philippi, “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” He goes on to say that even during difficult times, the memory of them and their grace brings him joy. He shares that he continues to pray for them and their ministry.
May you take time to remember those events and people in your spiritual journey that are “priceless.” Maybe you could do as Paul did and write a note to those individuals and tell them how thankful you are to God for them. As you write, say a prayer for them that they may continue to grow and have a lasting effect on others as well. Take time to also contemplate what impact you may be having on those around you. When they recall you in the future, will the memory be considered “priceless?”
