Introduction
Caring for wooden furniture and other wooden items is not a modern idea. Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, was a carpenter. He made and repaired wooden tables and chairs and other items for the home. Jesus was most likely an excellent carpenter too, learning much from Joseph. Today we will learn about caring for our wooden furniture. These simple steps will revive our furniture and help us maintain our homes.
Program Ideas
Old cabinets, tables or chairs can be dressed up with a fresh coat of wood polish or scratch repair. This will help restore damaged wood, hide any nicks or scratches and prolong the life of your wood furniture. Demonstrate this process on a piece of furniture in need of attention. Wearing gloves, dab a little liquid Old English Scratch Cover and Polish on a rag or paper towel and rub evenly onto the wooden item. Repeat for a deeper, richer color. For regular cleaning, wipe your wooden furniture with a damp cloth followed by a dry one to remove any remaining water.
When deciding where to place your furniture, keep in mind things that may be harmful to the wood. These include over–exposure to strong light, the room’s humidity level and heat from vents, fireplaces, or space heaters. All these elements may be harmful over time and undo all your hard work of trying to maintain and keep your furniture looking its best.

Service Project
Spruce up the corps by cleaning the wood items: holiness table, altars, and pulpit. Pour some scratch repair or polish on a rag or paper towel and rub onto the wood. If there is fabric on the wooden piece, use painters tape to line and protect the fabric.
Decorations
Place wooden doll furniture on a glass circle or doily for the centerpieces.
Just One Simple Step
Read Joshua 24:15
The phrase, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” can be found on wooden plaques in Christian bookstores or on Amazon.com. Many Christians hang these in their homes so visitors will know that their family has chosen to serve and follow the Lord
In the scripture reference above, Joshua urges God’s chosen people to make a final choice about whom they are going to serve. These are the same people that Moses, with God’s guidance, led out of the harsh grasp of slavery in Egypt. They are the ones who built and worshiped a golden calf while Moses was receiving the 10 commandments from God. In his old age Joshua makes a final plea to God’s chosen people to put away the idols that their previous relatives bowed down to and to serve the one “true God” who had saved them and has remained true to His promises. The final decision that Joshua was trying to get each of them to make is the same decision we need to make. Whom will I serve? What or whom we choose to follow and serve is a choice no one can make for us. It is a choice each of us must make in our own hearts. Whom have you chosen to follow?
God has made it easy for us to choose Him. He asks you to take one simple step and believe in His Son Jesus. This path is not the easiest choice or the most popular in the world we live in. It requires us to live set apart from the world and by a different standard. Sometimes the things the world says are okay, the Bible and the Holy Spirit declare wrong.
Along the way you may get a little worn with a few scratches just like the wood we repaired today. Sometimes we feel that we are “too damaged” for God to “fix us.” We need to have faith and not underestimate the power of God’s deep love for us. What some consider “damaged goods,” God considers priceless. Jesus’ love is so great, that His blood was shed to cover all those imperfections, nicks and scratches. He not only will revive us but will make us new. All He asks from us is that we choose to serve and follow Him. Whom have you chosen? You may believe that Jesus exists, but have you chosen to serve Him and follow in His ways? Does your life and actions reflect Jesus or are you allowing yourself to be influenced by something or someone else? It’s not too late to be restored, revived and to shine for Him.
Prayer: Lord, we pray today that the blood of Your Son Jesus will wash over us and repair our damaged souls. May Your cleansing power not only revive us, but make us into new creations. May we answer Joshua’s plea and choose to serve and follow You alone, always and forever. Amen.
