Shine the Light
Introduction
“For you were once darkness, but now in the Lord you are light; walk as children of Light” (Eph. 5:8).
This program aims to inspire the women to shine for Christ by exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit to those living in darkness.
Program Ideas
Decoration
Cover the tables with white tablecloths and place different types of lamps, such as electric, battery-operated, and candle-powered, to demonstrate various ways to illuminate a room. Additionally, include a mirror at each setting.
Activities
Turn off the overhead lights and leave only the lamps on so the women can see how their reflections appear in the mirror and compare which lighting position works best for them. After that, show them a video demonstrating how the moon reflects sunlight based on its position.

As the moon reflects the sun’s light, we can reflect the Light of Christ based on our position towards Him.
Let us remember that the Bible tells us that Jesus is the Light. In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of life.”
Activity
Moon-shaped papier-mâché lamps. You can find the directions on YouTube from these sites:

You can make the moon lamp as big or as small as you want and also as a Christmas ornament just by adding some glitter.
Shining the Light
Imagine you are in a messy room in your house, with things scattered all over the floor. Now, picture that the room is in complete darkness. How can you organize the chaos?
When we find ourselves in a disorganized room in the dark, it’s easy to trip over something and potentially hurt ourselves. However, once we turn on the light, everything changes. We can see where everything is and navigate without stumbling. The light doesn’t fix the mess; it simply allows us to see it clearly.
Light transforms our environment, illuminating our surroundings and enabling us to see clearly. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light” (Eph. 5:8 (NIV). Paul’s metaphor of light and darkness is frequently used in the Bible to represent good and evil, truth and lies, living in sin versus living in holiness, and the distinction between salvation and condemnation.
This metaphor reminds us of who we were before Christ, what we have become in Him, and how we are called to live our lives. When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we become His children, and He transforms our nature to be more like His. He calls us to live as His children and to “be imitators of God, as beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1).
When it says that we were once darkness, it signifies that we were blind and unable to see the light and the good things God has in store for us. The darkness within us was not merely external; it penetrated to the very core of our being. However, Christ has reversed that state, allowing light to illuminate our lives from the inside out and changing our nature. With Christ in our lives, we receive a new identity. Now in the Lord, we are the light. Darkness cannot extinguish the Light; on the contrary, the Light conquers the darkness. If we are light, we will never again live in darkness.
Paul reassures us in his message of 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Our being has changed in the light of Christ.
Let us embrace our role as daughters of Light. Our true identity is to be a beacon in this darkened world. Jesus is calling us to step out and radiate His light as a way of life, demonstrating His love within us to those who find themselves in darkness and “open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God… so they will receive forgiveness of sins and be sanctified. (Acts 26:18)
The way we live our lives reveals the blessings of what the Lord has accomplished within us. Paul encourages us to ensure that our lives mirror our true identity as “children of light.” We are called to shine brightly, allowing the fruit of the Spirit to flow through us. Just as a tree’s fruit reflects its nature, an individual’s fruit reveals their true character. With the arrival of Christ, His Holy Spirit dwells in us, transforming our nature so that our fruits embody goodness, justice, and truth.
When you shine for Jesus, focus not on fixing others’ problems but on reflecting the Light of Christ within you, much like the moon reflects the sun’s light. This is how we can guide others to see the truth and show them how the Light of Christ can illuminate their lives.
Mediation on this:
Jesus said, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Being a believer does not mean that you will never experience phases of darkness, such as illness, bitterness, or difficult times. Rather, being a believer means that even in these challenging moments, we know we have the One who is the LIGHT close by. We can be illuminated by His Light by simply adjusting our position.
Turn your eyes to Him and remember this: You, too, can shine for Christ and bring light to others in times of darkness. Consider how you can worship the Lord by letting His light shine through you. In what ways can you demonstrate that you are a new creation transformed by His light?
